December- 'Tis the Season!

Wow! It is hard to believe that it is December already. We will be working hard this month to help students meet the expected DIBELS and reading benchmarks in January. Students will be re-assessed on both tests the first part of January. I know that December is a busy month for everyone, but PLEASE KEEP READING DAILY--even over Christmas Break. Two weeks off with no reading can have a large effect on their January reading scores.

Please mark your calendars for our First Grade Christmas Program "How the Grinch Stole Christmas!" by Dr. Seuss. We will be practicing hard during the next few weeks so please make sure your child is still everyday to learn speaking parts and songs. The program will be Wednesday, December 13 at 6:00 pm for parents. We will also be performing for the school that morning at 9:30.

Halloween Parade

All students will participate in the Mount Mahogany Halloween Parade on Tuesday, October 31st. On that day, students may wear their Halloween costumes to school. The parade will begin at 9:30 am. It is a pick-up, drop-off parade through the halls and classrooms of Kindergarten through Sixth Grade, as well as the gym. We are asking parents to gather in the gym by 10:00 to watch the parade.
Students who decide not to wear their costumes all day will be given time to change after the parade. If your child has a toy weapon as an accessory to his/her costume, please leave it at home. No masks. Thank you!

Back to School Information

Thank you to everyone who was able to attend Back to School Night. A description of homework expectations and various classroom information was presented. If you were not in attendance, I have sent home the documents we discussed. I have also included the math workbook that your child will use throughout the school year. Please keep this in a safe place, as replacement books are not available.

Homework folders, spelling words, and Math/Spelling BINGO sheets will start coming home this week. Please select and complete homework items from the BINGO page and be prepared for a test on the spelling words this Friday. Math/Spelling BINGO sheets are due Friday, September 8. Please remember to sign your child's paper if they have earned a BINGO. Signatures are required to earn beads for brag tag necklaces. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask.
